What transmission is best for my car?

What's your idea of "dirt cheap"? If you want a 5 speed for that application, it's not going to be that cheap, maybe $500 for a used one. A 4 speed might be a little cheaper. You'll have to do some fabricating to hook it up, that car never came with anything like that.
